Over 160 GreenN8 members
have submitted the following comment and will present it in a public
inquiry which is set to start mid April 2005.
'Once in 10 years’ opportunity
to introduce changes to Haringey Planning Guidelines, which
will hopefully, ensure and protect what we all value: Green,
Clean and Safe Space to live in.
Cranford Way current designation as Defined
Employment Area No5.
(DEA 5) fails to protect a densely populated family oriented neighbourhood
from Heavy general industrial uses (B2) , which are not compatible to this
location.
SUBJECT:
Cranford Way current designation as Defined Employment Area No5.
(DEA 5) fails to protect a densely populated family oriented neighbourhood
from Heavy general industrial uses (B2) , which are not compatible to this
location.
OBJECTION:
Recent planning application to build a concrete batching
plant in Cranford Way DEA 5, has demonstrated that Cranford
Way current and proposed designation as is:
- not compatible with this location being so close to
houses and schools.
- and fails to safeguard the quality of life of it’s
neighbours, both human and wildlife.
I am very concerned over the designation
of Cranford Way, as an Industrial Estate.
Over the years the estate has generated increase in noise and traffic on the
edge of tolerable. However combining increased lorry traffic and environmental
pollution from a concrete factory or any chemical process plants is
wholly inappropriate in this location. Currently such developments
could be allowed under B2 uses (heavy/general industry) as part of what DEA’s
can include.
Heavy industrial setting in this location is wholly inappropriate.
SUGGESTION:
I Suggest that Cranford Way be allocated a new designation called:
RL- DEA - Residential Location Defined Employment Area
It will include:
- B1(a) (offices/business)
- B8 (warehousing/distribution)
- B1 (c) (light industry) in cases where
it pose no adverse impacts on it’s neighbours humans and
or wildlife.
It will not include:
- B2 uses (heavy
/general industry) will be unacceptable in new RL-DEA
designation.
The Cranford Way land to be re-designated
as RL-DEA given:
- the residential setting, and it being so close to houses,
schools, parkland and play areas
- the proximity to the local area of nature conservation
importance
- that this reflects the current/recent land use
-
The area has NEVER been used for B2 uses.
